OBJECTIVE: Charge Card fraud reduction
TARGET: Sales associates of major retailers accepting the American Express Card
PROBLEM: 65% of charge card fraud results from the failure of sales assistants to check cardholder signatures. Failure to check signatures is the result of sales assistants’ fear of the unpleasant and embarrassing aspects of confronting a customer, and their uncertainty in how to detect fraudulent signatures.
SOLUTION: This video docudrama goes beyond traditional instruction to help sales associates live through the emotions they fear in a confrontation, and to stress that checking signatures is part of their job.
Real fraud situations teach sales associates what to look for in a signature and how to control thesituation and overcome their misgivings.
RESULTS: The video was a component in an effort that achieved a record 38% reduction in charge card fraud the first year.
